Embroidered Bird Nest Onesie + Monogrammed Makeup Bag

I made this little onesie for a friend's baby that's on the way!

This Bird Nest Alpha is from Planet Applique (click HERE for 20% off your first Planet Applique order).

I hand stitched a little bow onto the birdie's head.

The customer supplied the bag and picked the embroidery font.

The embroidery monogram is the Diamond font from Herrington Designs on etsy (order through ebates for 1% cash back).

I like the look of this monogram, but be aware that the design has a lot of stitches-- meaning it will cost customers more for this monogram font than for other fonts I generally use.

Monogrammed/Applique Columbia PFG Shirt

Since my daughter LOVES fish, I knew she'd love a fish birthday party.  It took me awhile to decide what she should wear for her party.  I wanted it to be something she could wear beyond that day, so I knew I didn't want to put her age on the shirt or anything saying birthday on it.  I also didn't necessarily want to do something with a fish on it.

Then I had an epiphany-- monogram a fishing shirt!  You see them all over Pinterest, but it's usually for teenage girls on adult sized shirts.  Low and behold, Columbia sells their famous shirt in a kids size!  The smallest they had when I ordered it was a 2T, which was exactly what I needed.  And it was on sale!  Go to Columbia to check it out.  I ordered it through ebates and got 5% cash back (woohoo!).

The fabric used for the appliqué was a Hancock Fabrics exclusive, so sadly it's not available anymore.

The appliqué font is from Boutique Fonts.

The shirt runs big enough that I think she'll even be able to wear it next summer.

The bloomers and socks are from GAP if you're looking for something similar.

Harlow's Birthday | Pumpkin Patch | Monogrammed Shirt (& An Embroidery Mistake!)

I now have a two-year-old.  I can't believe it.  For Harlow's first and now second birthday, we have gone to the pumpkin patch.  Last year was fun, but this year was even more entertaining with her running all around.  At the end of this post I'm going to tell you about the shirt she's wearing.  First, I'll show you some pictures from the pumpkin patch!  My parents went with us this year.  Harlow loved walking through the tunnel, playing on all the playground equipment, seeing the animals, and picking out pumpkins.  It was a fun day!

Now, let's chat about the shirt and the big boo-boo I made...

Cute design, huh?  Well, first let's talk about how I ruined the shirt.  I was embroidering while texting and comforting a crying toddler.  What was I thinking?  You can't embroider and multitask.  The sleeve worked its way under the hoop and got embroidered to the back of the design.  Heavy sigh.  I had to cut it loose.

I didn't think I could talk Harlow into keeping her arm tucked to her side to hide the hole.  I could have cut the sleeves above the hole and hemmed them to be shorter, but I wanted to keep them long.  That brings us to leaf patches!  Work with me here.  I cut some leaf shapes out of felt and hand stitched one over the hole and another on the sleeve at the same spot.

The shirt is Okie Dokie Peplum from JCPenney (order through ebates.com to get 8% cash back).  You can get this monogram design at Planet Appliqué (click HERE to get 20% off).  Just stay focused :).

Embroidered Fall Pillows

October is here!  That means there's no shame in covering your house in pumpkins!  I put pumpkin decorations out in September, but I know there are a few pumpkin sticklers out there.  Well, bring on all the fall decor!  Pillows are such an easy way to decorate for the season, so here are some 12 inch throw pillows to add a bit of fall to your patio or couch.

I embroidered the burlap with designs that were both free!  The leaf is from iBroidery (free monthly download with free account), and the pumpkin appliqué is from Lynnie Pinnie (free when you sign up for newsletter).

My mom made them into pillows, and they are available to purchase at a little store in Greers Ferry for just $10 each if you're heading to the lake this fall.

Embroidered Ballet Bag

Our friends' little girl had a birthday party a couple weeks ago.  I found the cutest play-dough set where you can make little pies.  I can't wait to start doing something like that with Harlow!

I wanted something fun to put the gift in.  The little girl takes a dance class, so I made a little bag she can use for dance class or for whatever she wants to use it for!
I got the bag at Hancock Fabrics (which is now going out of business...let's take a moment of silence...now I'll wipe away my tears and continue with this blog post...).
The V appliqué is from Planet Appliqué (click HERE to get 20% off).  This alphabet was temporarily free, and that's how I snagged it!  If you follow Planet Applique on Facebook, you'll be notified when they offer free designs.

The ballerina is from Daily Embroidery.  They offer a free design every day.  This was my first stitched (not appliqué) design.  It was a little tough, because there wasn't a step by step list of what the stitch order was, so I kind of had to guess what was coming next.  It's not perfect, but I think it turned out okay.
I did the embroidery design on the polka dot fabric, cut a circle, and used my sewing machine to stitch it onto the bag. I frayed the edges a bit.

And there you have it!
